Workshop Description

This course offers a unique opportunity to learn metalsmithing skills and create your own personal jewelry pieces inspired by the natural world. This class immerses you in the textures and forms of nature, and guides you in the fabrication techniques needed to create intricate work with sterling silver. This class is designed for those with some experience in a jewelry studio. A prerequisite of our "Beginner Jewelry Making Class", proof of attendance at a similar class elsewhere, or images and description of skill level and experience is required. Please email us with this information if you are a new student with us. This workshop delves into more advanced metalworking techniques and challenges the student to observe closely, and translate that observation into unique design ideas working in sterling silver. You’ll explore a range of fabrication techniques, and each week will focus on a new skill, including texturing options, forming and adding volume to flat metal, saw piercing, soldering, making bezels and setting stones. If there is time we may also add more techniques. This class meets over four Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21, 28, from 10am-5pm. Day one will include a short, easy hike- please wear comfortable shoes. All classes in our studio require you to wear closed-toed shoes, and it is best to wear clothing that you won't mind getting dirty. Please bring your reading glasses if you need them. *The class price includes instruction and access to studio tools and supplies. *Metals and stones are charged separately according to individual use, or students may bring their own materials. Please ask for a list of what to bring to each class.
